As a Biology Technician for this thriving and expanding Sixth Form College, you’ll be joining an exceptional institution with outstanding examination results in a fantastic working environment.Biology TechnicianFull time and Term time only with 5 plus daysBexhill-on-Sea TN40 2JGUp to £20,626 pro rata, dependent on skills and experienceOur client, a Sixth Form College in Bexhill, East Sussex is looking for a qualified Biology Technician who can provide support for learning and teaching.This role would suit an individual with experience or a newly qualified graduate. Full training will be provided.As a Biology Technician, your duties will include:To check, prepare and clear away equipment & materials for practical lessons, assessments and student investigations.To liaise with the chemistry technician over the preparation and disposal of chemicals.To prepare and set up demonstration experiments/activities.To be in practical lessons to support delivery of practical and theoretical lessons.To assist and advise students with investigations and coursework, as appropriate.To check and clean equipment and materials and undertake general maintenance.To ensure general laboratory cleanliness, safety and security.Overall monitoring of lab logger and liaising with staff over workload.To ensure Covid safe procedures are followed in the labs during practical sessions.To be able to demonstrate the use of equipment for students.To support any external projects the College is involved in.Accompany staff and students on visits and transporting students in the college minibus.To provide support for students inside and outside of lessons.You will also be responsible for: Producing Self-Assessment and Quality Assurance reports.Ensuring that appropriate risk assessments are put in place for all aspects of the role.Undertaking Staff Development and training as required.Undertaking other reasonable tasks in these areas as requested by the Principal or designated deputy.In carrying out the duties above, the postholder will show an awareness of, and compliance with, all college policies and procedures, but particularly those relating to Health & Safety and Equal Opportunities.Essential Skills and Experience:Educated to degree level in biology or related area or have previous experience working as a biology technician.Experience of working in a laboratory environment.Knowledge of health and safety relevant to the role.Effective written and verbal communication skills.Good interpersonal skills with the ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships with individuals at all levels.Effective planning and organisation skills with the ability to prioritise and work to deadlines.Able to work alone, with minimal supervision, or as part of a team.A good work ethic with the ability to work under pressure, to be flexible and thorough.The confidence and ability to use initiative to resolve issues that arise, within defined limits of authority.A commitment to deliver excellent customer serviceAn interest in supporting the learning needs of individual students.Methodical approach to tasks with the ability to maintain accuracy and attention to detail.A proactive approach to work with a willingness to change.A commitment to Continuous Professional Development.A willingness to occasionally work outside contracted hours.An understanding of and commitment to the College Values.An appropriate First Aid Certificate or willingness to complete training to achieve this qualification.Desirable Skills and Experience:Knowledge of practical activities for Advanced level or ability to learn (D)An ability to contribute to technical support in other science subjects (D)Experience of working in an educational environment (D)Be a minibus driver or be willing to learn (D)The successful candidates will be required to possess an enhanced DBS certificate to be employed at the College.Closing date for applications is Monday 18 October 2021.
