In addition the Department of Anaesthesia will offer audit / research opportunities in the areas of Pre-operative assessment, Intensive Care and Obstetric Anaesthesia.This post will include on-call responsibilities participating in a 1 in 8 full shift pattern that is compliant with the European Working Time Directive and includes prospective cover.There are 7 main theatres performing 6000 operations per annum (including all day trauma and emergency lists). There are 4-day surgery theatres performing 9000 operations per annum. There is a broad base of surgical specialities catered for which gives a good grounding, as well as more specialised experience.There is a busy maternity unit aiding in 6000 deliveries per annum and with a reputation for providing excellent teaching in Obstetric Anaesthesia.There are 12 critical care beds admitting more than 550 patients per year. Kingston has the largest obstetric unit in the region with 5,950 deliveries.There is a greater involvement of staff by allowing participation in planning and directing services across the Trust. In particular, clinical staff and those who work directly with patients are involved in decision-making and influence in how services are provided at the highest level.You will be required to have at least 2 years postgraduate training or equivalent, in anaesthetic specialty training, or you must be able to demonstrate achievement of the necessary equivalent competencies. You should also have current ALS provider status or equivalent certification. There will be an opportunity to teach and supervise anaesthetic trainees, and those more experienced doctors with a high level of specialist knowledge and expertise will be expected to take a broader role in these activities.
