Principal Consultant - OrnithologistRPS is looking for an experienced and commercially minded Ornithologist to join our highly respected Ecology Team at Principal level.

Our work covers UK on shore and off shore projects and we are particularly interested to hear from ornithologists based in Scotland or those with particular experience in renewable energy project work.

We specialise in all areas of the built and natural environment, shaping the future of our environmental, social and economic landscapesThe roleThe position’s technical focus is ornithology services for infrastructure projects, including renewable energy, coastal developments, road, forestry and marine developments.

This is a client facing role and you’ll benefit from an exciting and diverse workload, delivering high quality support for private and public-sector clients across Scotland, England and Wales.

Whilst helping to grow, manage and support our ornithological team, the role will be to orchestrate ornithology surveys, impact assessments, mitigation design, EIA and HRA’s all in accordance with best practice.

You will take on responsibility for the oversight and management of more junior team members’ technical work and outputs and work with senior staff to generate new client relationships and work streams.

Your skills/experienceWe’d like you to have a degree (MSc or equivalent, and ideally a PhD) in ecology or closely related discipline and have established experience as an ornithology consultant.

As well as your strong technical skills you’ll be experienced in consultation with statutory consultees and stakeholders and have developed skills in large scale infrastructure schemes including EIAs. 

You’ll have strong leadership qualities, project management and financial planning ability and experience of working in ecological consultancy or RSPB, BTO etc.

You’ll need to have excellent communication skills with the ability to build on new and existing client relationships.

Experience in work-winning for major projects and in-depth knowledge of the industry and professional consultancy is key.
