This is a highly commercial role where you will use cost bench-marking, analysis, forecasting and budgeting skills to formulate propositions for business development and pricing controls. We are looking for an Accountant or an Economist with excellent experience in business partnering with cross-functional teams and using data driven arguments for commercial reasons.

You will have responsibility for a range of things including cost analysis, forecasting cost sensitivity, profitability and of linking financial data to operational performance in order to lead negotiations with the industry regulator.

This is suitable for a Qualified Accountant or experienced Economist with a demonstrated background managing and manipulating data, using financial planning and analysis skills, excellent report writing capability and experience of influencing senior staff, external parties and being focused on achieving positive commercial outcomes.

  • Lead the bench-marking analysis and provide key recommendations for senior directors. Working with external consultants to build knowledge, which informs strategy.
  • Preparing, coordinating & leading robust short (current year) and long term (5-10 year) price control forecasts for the business using knowledge of the price control financial mechanisms.
  • Enhance management information; provide insight, knowledge and recommendations at Head of and director level.
  • Supporting submissions such as re-openers and ensuring definitions and cost estimations are clear and fully documented in line with definitions for costs.
  • Reviewing business cases and investment appraisals as part of these submissions, creating business plan documentation including working with Capital Investment.

To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:

  • Appropriate Accounting qualification (ICAS, ICAEW, ACCA, CIMA or CIPFA) and at least 5 years PQE in an equivalent role.
  • OR be an Economist with excellent analysis skills and a demonstrated track-record of operating in a commercial finance role within a capital intensive business.
  • Experienced leading a team with experience and knowledge of a complex environment ideally within the energy, infrastructure or other large and complex project driven business.
  • Have relevant commercial finance expertise and working on financial models and cash flow projections to provide recommendations on project options.
  • Coordinating, collating and reviewing financial forecasts; delivering reports and performance (5 year and beyond) insight.
  • Adept at reviewing legal and contractual documentation with a focus on financial related elements and highlighting risks and opportunities.
