The position of Spacetrack Operator involves learning and developing expertise to analyse satellite orbits, space-based events and SSPAR radar performance to support RAF Fylingdales’ primary missile warning mission, and secondary mission of space surveillance.

They will work to maintain an accurate catalogue of trackable objects in space by optimising radar energy to collect the best possible data on friendly and threat satellites and space junk.

The Spacetrack Operators work as part of a shift team providing /7 support to the RAF on a fixed shift pattern of -hour day and night shifts with regular rest days and extended fixed leave periods, the roster also offers flexibility via a personal shift swap arrangement with colleagues.

The successful candidate will be required to become proficient in operating and maintaining the primary mission computer system and representing the company and department during high profile industry, public and military visits.

The radar at Fylingdales collects huge amounts of data every day, which Spacetrack Operators use to build a picture of what is going on in space.

They write technical reports and provide real time assessments on break ups, decaying satellites, possible in-space conjunctions, International Space Station CubeSat deployments and even crewed resupply missions.

Infrequent travel may be required to represent Serco and RAF Fylingdales in technical exchanges or at conferences or training events.

The ideal candidate:

We are looking for someone with a technical background such as A Level or level 3 qualifications in a relevant field like maths, physics, engineering, or computer science.

We will happily consider candidates without formal or academic qualifications if they can demonstrate experience and training.

Successful Spacetrack Operators are enthusiastic and reliable, they constantly learn and develop new skills as the space domain changes.

The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate a high level of written and spoken English and have good use of Microsoft Office.
