Job Introduction

BBC Sport is looking to recruit two dynamic and enthusiastic Content Editors to work on our Studio based Football programmes, primarily Final Score but also including The Champions League, Football Focus, Match of the Day and Match of the Day 2.

We want BBC Sport’s output to reflect and understand the audiences we serve - for example, the different geographical regions of the UK and the experience of people from underrepresented groups (eg people from Black, Asian or minority ethnic backgrounds, people with lived experience of disability, individuals within the LGBTQ+ community and those from lower socio economic groups). We are therefore actively seeking individuals with skills or experience that can help contribute towards ensuring we maximise the diversity of our coverage and content.

Main Responsibilities

The applicant will have significant editorial responsibility and will be expected to output Final Score on a regular basis as well as plan ahead.

Based on the department’s strategic aims, the successful candidate will be expected to :
‚ Drive a new creative vision for 2024/25 onwards alongside the series director.
‚ Formulate their own ideas and produce running orders for the show.
‚ Oversee the planning of the programme, including guests, reporters and working with Football OB’s
‚ Manage the programme budget alongside the PM to realise editorial ambitions within operational and financial constraints.

The successful candidate would be expected to lead a production team across the season including identifying, developing and supporting new talent.
In addition to the programme responsibility, the applicant would also be expected to lead the strategic planning and commissioning of output. This would involve working with other platform editors/producers to plan and develop the most impactful content.

Are you the right candidate

You will have substantial experience in live television, live radio and/or multi-media production as a Sports Producer or Journalist with proven editorial judgement, flair and the ability to make valid decisions quickly.

A knowledge of sport - is essential along with proven leadership skills; managing individuals and teams of multi-skilled staff

You will have a detailed understanding of the logistical requirements of producing programmes and a practical awareness of the latest technology applicable to broadcasting.

Cross platform working is a key BBC Sport strategic aim and you will need to have significant experience in this area; supporting BBC Sport objectives to deliver new audiences, digital output and multi-platform content.

A good knowledge of the major digital platforms and the differences between them in terms of potential and how they can be exploited is required.

You will have considerable experience of working with Production Management colleagues across a variety of aspects including compliance with BBC policies and managing the operational performance of the production(s).

The successful candidate will support the Head of Football and be responsible for the identification and development of diverse talent on and off-screen. Promoting diversity within the content or output and supporting creativity, innovation and diversity within teams.

The applicant will give office based editorial support, to the Head of Football, Creative Lead, and Production Manager and help to deliver - on budget - the programme.
