Job Introduction

BBC Scotland’s The Social is looking for a Content Producer with a passion for social media and shortform content to join their creative team from 1st May 2024 to 30th September 2024. BBC The Social is a talent development platform working with young creatives across Scotland to make content for an 18-34 audience. We make content for young people by young people and work with them to pursue a positive onward journey within the creative industries. We are a small award-winning team who sit within the Scotland Digital Department within BBC Scotland Productions.

Main Responsibilities

We’re looking for a Content Producer who not only uses social media platforms but also understands them. We’re looking for someone who follows social media trends, knows what works and what doesn’t and also understands the audiences that consume and create on them.

Main Responsibilities include:

  • Developing ideas, pitches and scripts for shortform content.
  • Working on narrative storytelling of digital first contentFilming and editing that content.
  • Working with young people and talent management of on-screen contributors.
  • Editorial oversight of content and maintain editorial standards of social media.
  • Be responsible for checking and feedbacking on social edits to junior members of the team.
  • Managing the workload and delegation of tasks to researchers on the team.
  • Planning and organising filming shoots / filming days for shortform content including all the appropriate pre-production paperwork.
  • Think creatively and come up with ideas for engaging and impactful social media content for a young Scottish audience.
  • Developing bespoke content ideas for The Social to feed into the BBC’s coverage of big calendar events e.g. the General Election and The EurosBe confident in planning, leading and presenting outreach workshops to young creatives across Scotland (some travel involved).

Are you the right candidate?

The ideal candidate for this role will demonstrate:

  • Excellent editing skills and is proficient in Premier Pro.
  • Able to turnaround social edits within a tight timescale.
  • An understanding of social media content, trends and the audience that use them.
  • An understanding of what works for various social media platforms.
  • Experience in self shooting either alone or as part of a team.
  • Excellent people skills and presenting skills is essential as this role also involves outreach across Scotland.
  • Creative thinking when it comes to idea development and experience in producing narrative storytelling.
  • An ability to read, critique and edit scripts for feedback and develop an idea suitable for our audience.
  • Will demonstrate sound editorial judgement and experience in editorial guidelines around social media.
