Job Purpose

The Area Estates & Facilities manager will have operational management of a regional estate, managing suppliers and stakeholders. They will also ensure BBC standards are adhered to and exemplify our BBC Values enabling colleagues to do their best work to serve all audiences.

The successful candidate will also manage property change projects delivering thoughtfully designed, fresh and vibrant workplace for staff to work in and for audiences to visit. Additionally, they will ensure BBC buildings and sites are safe, secure, sustainable and on air.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

‚ Accountable for the service provider delivering estate services to each site, ensuring there is an effective liaison between all parties.
‚ Resolve estate issues and any disputes, escalating problems where necessary.
‚ Act as escalation point for estate matters, including Workplace aspects of fire, sustainability and energy, keeping all stakeholders up to date with any developments.
‚ Collaborate with external and internal stakeholders as necessary to on all site estate matters, ensuring suppliers adhere to BBC policies and procedures.
‚ Assist defining the priorities and scheduling of project works for the facility, monitoring to a successful conclusion.
‚ Managing staff, consultants and contractors and liaising with external bodies on a regular basis
‚ To assist in space planning exercises at BBC, maintaining close liaison with departments regarding future growth requirements and how to improve the utilisation of space.
‚ Manage estates and facility management services to ensure the efficient day-to-day operation of the BBC’s estate to a high and professional standard.
‚ As part of a wider estate management team, contribute to the future planning of improvements for the facility, reviewing requests and proposals from end users.
‚ Manage operating costs and budgets for the facility, including all Workplace costs and approval of expenditure of allocated budget.
‚ To develop and manage both reactive and planned building maintenance programmes, make recommendations, prepare briefs and specifications, manage and ensure best practice and timely delivery of annual planned and reactive maintenance for dedicated BBC’s buildings.
‚ To work closely with the BBC Health and Safety team, to identify and manage health and safety issues relating to on site works, contractors and the building environment.
‚ Responsible for ensuring all services are delivered to the facility in line with contract specification and Service Level Agreements.
‚ Continually look for cost effective improvements with regards to estate management and Workplace services.
‚ Undertake reviews of services provided to ensure they are in line with contract specification, addressing any performance issues where necessary.

Knowledge, Skills, Training & Experience

Essential
‚ Proven Facilities Manager capable of managing multi-site estates.
‚ Experience of running sites sensitive to business continuity issues.
‚ Ability to prioritise tasks and deal with business critical issues as well as conflicting demands.
‚ Strong track record of delivery, securing best value and ensuring high standards from third party suppliers.
‚ Good interpersonal skills, with the ability to develop, maintain and enhance collaborative relationships with a variety of internal and external contacts.
‚ Demonstrable delivery focus, with a positive and creative approach to change, dealing effectively with complexity, uncertainty and ambiguity.
‚ Effective communicator, capable of writing articles and reports and of managing and manipulating data.
‚ Computer literature, able to use common computer packages such as Microsoft word, excel etc.

Desirable

‚ BIFM membership.
