Salary: £37,000 - £40,000 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

Job Introduction

BBC Children in Need believes that every child and young person in the UK should be able to thrive and be the best they can be. We are 2 years into delivering our new five year ambition and strategy for children and young people and it’s an exciting time to join the charity.

We are looking for a project specialist to support delivery of a range of technology projects across the charity. You will own workstreams, create plans and drive the delivery of projects which make a real difference to the charity and ultimately improve the lives of children and young people across the country.

You will be working with the Head of Operations for the charity and our team of technology specialists to help drive delivery of projects which are critical to the charity’s future success. We are in the process of reprocuring for some key services, and you will play a key role in ensuring the technology delivery elements of these run smoothly. Underpinning the charity’s Digital Transformation ambitions is a plan to optimise our data flows – you will own and shape parts of this work, co-ordinating to ensure we deliver maximum value to the charity. Alongside this we are also looking to develop and improve our internal processes for managing technology – you will be responsible for ensuring process improvements are successfully adopted and embedded through communicating, tracking and reporting.

Main Responsibilities

  • Leading workstreams and co-ordinating a range of internal and external delivery partners
  • Working with senior managers technical leads to agree and document detailed delivery plans
  • Identifying and documenting project & workstream risks and issues
  • Administering project & workstream meetings
  • Producing accurate, engaging and insightful project reports
  • Analysing complex business processes and datasets
  • Rolling out process improvements including design, documentation, training, and monitoring

Are you the right Candidate?

You will be the kind of person who likes to manage and organise the workload of yourself and others. You will be excited at the opportunity to make a difference to one of the nation’s favourite charities. You will understand different delivery methodologies such as Agile and Waterfall and how they can help to manage risks and deliver value. You will have worked on technology projects before – you will have experience of creating and managing some or all of requirements, deliverables, test & implementation plans, acceptance criteria, support models. You will be a great communicator whether you are running a meeting of tech specialists or preparing exec updates.

The successful candidate will also have

  • Experience in supporting project delivery or business change management activities
  • Experience of working on projects involving development of business applications and data.
  • Knowledge of project management terminology, tools and techniques.
  • Proactive and able to work on own initiative or as part of a team – turning ideas and strategy into tangible realities, outcomes and processes.
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills with demonstrable experience of working under pressure to tight deadlines and managing a high workload with conflicting priorities.
  • Strong communication skills (spoken, written and listening); an ability to present information accurately and concisely.
  • Excellent attention to detail and quality and able to ensure documents are consistent in rationale, language, terminology and style.
  • Flexible approach to work with a focus on delivery to deadlines and high standards.
  • Good understanding of best practice around Data Protection and Information Security.
  • Strong Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Excel and Word) skills.

Desirable

  • A recognised project - Lean (Six Sigma Green Belt) - or change management qualification; or demonstrable career development activities.
  • Understanding of Charity business processes
