This role reports to the News Editors, London

Overview of job

You’ll assist the London newsroom in maximising use of exclusive and original content across Global’s brands. When on the bulletins desk, you will build high quality, relevant, timely and accurate news. You will also provide editorial guidance to the wider team where necessary.

Working with the News Editors and Deputy News Editor you will help to handle the news operation in London, ensuring our output reflects Global and Ofcom guidelines.

You will be given additional responsibilities, such as coaching staff and casual workers, overseeing our work experience programme, or ensuring shift guides are kept up to date.

Measures of success –

In the first few months, you would have:

  • Helped in the daily running of the bulletins and LBC News operation in the newsroom.
  • Stepped up to support the News Editors and Deputy News Editors.
  • Been given additional responsibilities.
  • Set clear goals with your line manager.

Responsibilities of the role

  • You'll make sure that everything you and your colleagues do is aligned with legal and broadcast regulations, and consistent with Global's values and standards.
  • Ensuring the Global Newsroom style guide is being followed at all times across all brands.
  • Helping to weave the best news lines from LBC and LBC News into bulletins.
  • Identifying and helping to train and support the next generation of hardworking broadcast journalists.
  • Supporting Work Experience placements, so they get the most out of their time at Global.

What you will need

The ideal candidate will be proactive and willing to develop and implement innovative solutions, capable of the following:

  • You will have a relevant broadcast journalism qualification, and proven experience of broadcasting both live and pre-recorded news content.
  • Being proactive in getting exclusive stories on air and online having been accomplished at reporting, desk editing and news production.
  • Excellent networking skills are required; relationships within Global and outside of the company are always key. You’ll assist in building, contributing and developing effective contact databases
  • Be able to respond to changing situations and problem-solving under pressure, to ensure our output is always of the highest standard in all circumstances.
  • You’ll have an excellent knowledge of media law and the Ofcom Broadcast Code.
  • News happens 24/7 - this isn’t a ‘normal’ office job and flexibility is key.
