Location: Office Base is MediaCity, Salford. This is a hybrid role and the successful candidate will balance office working with home working.

Job Introduction

BBC Sport are seeking a Senior Data Analyst, this is a continuing role based at MediaCity, Salford on a 70/30 basis.

Reporting to the Digital Growth Lead, this role is embedded in the BBC Sport and Nations and Regions team. Working alongside Audience Analysts and teams of Data Scientists and Researchers, you will be the day-to-day contact for analysis for BBC Sport’s digital and social media content and content performance on BBC iPlayer and BBC Sounds.

We want BBC Sport’s output to reflect and understand the audiences we serve - for example, the different geographical regions of the UK and the experience of people from underrepresented groups. We would therefore encourage applications from individuals with skills or experience that can help contribute towards ensuring we maximise the diversity of our coverage and content.

Main Responsibilities

  • Undertake and deliver analytics projects either of a large scale or managing more than one project simultaneously.
  • Working closely with our research teams for both tactical and strategic insights
  • Deliver inspiring and actionable insights (rooted in robust data, analysis and measurement).
  • Support Principal Analysts in managing projects and fielding queries, while sometimes being the pilot .
  • Help to train and mentor junior analysts; and collaborate with analysts and technical teams across the BBC.
  • Maintain high standards of presentation, including the development of new or imaginative ways of using or communicating data and insights to editorial teams..
  • Ability to take on bigger problems and break down that down into smaller parts to deliver the solution
  • Helping non-data-oriented colleagues understand where analysis can help them with their day to day roles
  • Developing relationships within Audiences and within BBC Sport
  • Seeking out proactive opportunities to use our data and experience
  • Able to build and maintain strong working relationships where you might, as a specialist, have to manage expectations of more senior colleagues
  • Making recommendations for future creation / commissioning / curation of all forms of Sport content for the BBC.

Knowledge, Skills, Training & Experience

  • Educated to degree level or above in STEM subject or equivalent experience
  • Experience in delivering analysis projects in corporate or public sector organisations
  • Naturally inquisitive, and enjoys problem solving
  • Ability to manage project teams and help other members priorities work, as well as the ability to manage your own time and prioritise accordingly
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Enjoys collaboration and working as part of a team
  • Understanding of one or more data scripting language such as Python, R or SQL or tooling relevant to the specifics of the role
  • Experience developing relationships and presenting results to senior stakeholders.
  • Self-starter who also works well in a complex organisation where you must take people with you to achieve goals
