About thejob

With previous workingtechnical experience as either an Electrical or Civil Engineer youwill be responsible for the management of multidisciplinary designteams ensuring compliance with industry standards codes and clientrequirements.

Collaborating with crossfunctionalteams you will manage the successful planning design andimplementation of various Substation based engineering projectspredominantly within the regulated DNO market at voltages between11132kV.

Responsibilities:

  • TeamLeadership Direct line management of a team of approximately 10Electrical designers and technicians.
  • ProjectDesign Leadership Management of design works for projects indevelopment detailed design and technical support duringconstruction stages.
  • Commercial &Programme Management and prioritisation of works for theteam
  • Environmental Ensure designs areconsiderate of environmental factors and that key business advisorsare involved in the design reviews on individualprojects.
  • Safety Ensure safety by designoperational compliance and design governance is carried out in linewith the OCU Group policies andprocedures.

KeyRoleContent:

ProjectPlanning andConceptualization:

  • Organiseproject feasibility studies and site investigations. ProvideTechnical advice where required and ensure correct projectstakeholders are consulted.
  • Contribute to thedevelopment of project scopes objectives and designcriteria.
  • Develop quotations for design andproject feasibility work
  • Collaborate witharchitects planners and other stakeholders to develop conceptualdesigns.
  • Collaborate with the client to ensuredesign milestones and hold points are achieved
  • Ensure Change Control is logged &documented.

DetailedDesign andDocumentation:

  • Coordinatethe preparation of detailed designpackages.
  • Ensure design reviews are completedin line with OCU Group Engineering Procedures with relevantstakeholders
  • Ensure designs comply withrelevant standards codes andregulations.
  • Management of SubConsultants wherework packages require
  • Work closely withmultidisciplinary teams including structural engineersenvironmental engineers and projectmanagers.

CollaborationandCoordination:

  • Collaboratewith clients contractors and regulatory authorities to ensureproject requirements are met.
  • Participate indesign review meetings and incorporate feedback into designrevisions.
  • Lead on Principal Design matterswhere projects require and ensure projects within the portfoliohave Principal Designer checklists completed in line with CDM2015.

QualityAssurance:

  • Implementquality assurance processes to ensure the accuracy and reliabilityof design deliverables.
  • Conduct regular checksto ensure compliance with project specifications and industrystandards.
  • Routine with the managingcounterpart with regard to project quality assurance and complianceto quality managementprocess.

Estimating /FinancialControl:

  • Contributeto the preparation of project cost estimates andbudgets.
  • Identify costeffective designsolutions while maintaining highqualitystandards.
  • Proposing innovation new methods andorganisation of CPD sessions with the supply chain asrequired.
  • Team Management TimesheetCoordination with Office Manager
  • Management ofvariations for projects in progress where required (liaison withthe team QS / Office Coordinator)
  • MonthlyFinancial Review meetings to ensure cost allocations arecorrect

ConstructionSupport:

  • Providetechnical support during the construction phase of projects withthe support of the design team.
  • Respond to sitequeries and review construction progress to ensure alignment withdesign specifications. Ensure queries are dealt with swiftly asrequired.

RegulatoryCompliance:

  • Stayinformed about changes in regulations and codes related toelectrical / civil engineering design and specifically the clientscodes and specifications.
  • Ensure that alldesigns and projects comply with relevant health and safetyregulations.

QualificationsandRequirements:

  • Bachelorsdegree in Civil Engineering or a relatedfield.
  • Chartered Engineer status or workingtowards chartership.
  • Proven experience in civilengineering design with a focus on infrastructureprojects.
  • Proficiency in relevant designsoftware and tools.
  • Strong analytical andproblemsolving skills.
  • Excellent communicationand interpersonalskills.
