Job Title: Energy and Sustainability Manager

Type: Full Time / Permanent

Location: Home with UK wide travel to our nurseries

Salary: £50k-£60k car allowance and bonus opportunity

Clean UK driving Licence and access to a car is essential

Purpose of the Role:

The post holder will be responsible to the Head of Facilities for managing and monitoring Bright Horizons UK Energy/Utility consumption and for proactively leading the management of energy saving schemes and will be the lead specialist for Energy Management and lead specialist for related Sustainability matters.

Key Responsibilities

  • Embrace, endorse and ensure that the “Keeping Everybody Safe” safety culture is embedded in all tasks and is our number one priority within any Facilities, Project, or Operational undertakings.
  • To ensure the effective management of energy resources to meet BHFS objectives and targets.
  • To identify, develop and implement creative and complex new energy related opportunities. Carry out all energy related tasks to ensure service provision and compliance.
  • To motivate and train people in energy management.
  • Support and influence the corporate energy strategy, while maintaining oversight of legal, statutory, and technical issues which affect BHFS premises.
  • Assist Nursery Managers to measure, monitor and report on energy consumption and carbon emissions.
  • Develop and advise on energy strategy/solutions, developing these into working projects, which meet BH objectives and best practice.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce carbon emissions within BHFS settings and properties and deliver on these opportunities through managing installations & behavioural changes.
  • To be able to normalise and verify savings post implementation.
  • A subject matter expert advising and providing updates within their discipline, whilst having a broader understanding on how the sustainability agenda impacts upon property, facilities, and the wider business.
  • Support wider energy management objectives, for example through working with Procurement and BHFS Energy Broker
  • Carry out financial analysis, returns on investment strategies and provide full feasibility studies of costed initiatives / projects to reduce energy usage and carbon emissions.

Responsible For :

  • Maintain a thorough understanding of corporate energy strategy, legal, statutory, and technical issues which affect the Carbon and Energy consumption.
  • Measure, monitor and report on energy consumption and carbon emissions.
  • Develop and advise on energy strategy/solutions, developing these into working projects, which meet objectives and best practice.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce carbon emissions within property portfolios.
  • Deliver on these opportunities through managing installations & behavioural changes and to be able to normalise and verify savings post implementation.
  • Assist client nurseries to meet their increasingly challenging compliance requirements.
  • Support procurement with energy sourcing and look beyond our own consumption in terms of how our supply base can support BH to provide more sustainable and environmental solutions.
  • Provide full feasibility studies of costed initiatives / projects to reduce energy usage.
  • Project management and implementation of initiatives.
  • Work with and support the Senior Project Managers, ensuring that projects are as energy efficient as is financially possible.
  • Work closely with Regional Facilities Managers and Contractor Partners to deliver cost effective energy and sustainability initiatives.
  • Provide monitoring and verification through the full cycle of the project to achieve cost and energy efficient solutions.
  • Ensure BHFS benefit from emerging opportunities, innovation, and technology.
  • Support BHFS wider sustainability and corporate social responsibility objectives.
  • Keep abreast of Energy Market developments and changes, ensuring that BHFS comply with all Energy related Legislation.
  • Train and support Nursery Managers on all Sustainability and energy saving measures.
  • Extensive working knowledge of BMS and control theory and knowledge of the principal techniques and technologies which support the efficient use of energy.
  • Competency in current benchmark techniques and statistical analysis
  • Understand the principles behind HVAC, refrigeration and Lighting operation and system design / integration.
  • Capable of preparing fully costed energy efficiency proposals and reports
  • Ability to carry out full energy surveys and feasibility studies of energy technologies.

Essential Experience:

  • Fully computer literate with working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. including utilisation of energy monitoring software to prep(are reports and target high usage.
  • Ideally, you'll have experience delivering energy solutions within Buildings and should have excellent general knowledge of Energy and Carbon legislation/compliance .
  • Keeping up to date with changes in Energy and Carbon regulations and best practice.
  • Supporting behavioural change programmes relating to reducing energy usage and carbon emissions.

Qualifications

  • Candidates can come from various backgrounds such as Energy Consultancy, or Energy Management but should have a Degree/HNC in either an Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Building Services), or Energy Specific Subject Matter (Energy Engineering, Renewable Energy).

Desirable Skills and Experience

  • Professional qualification and relevant membership of CIBSE/Energy Institution and/or evidence of working towards full membership.
  • Maintaining professional qualification and undertaking the required amount of continue professional development.
  • Experience of working in the education/childcare sector.
  • Experience of working in occupied settings
  • Minimum of 1-2 years’ experience working in an Energy & Sustainability specialist role.
