Job Title: Principal Mechanical Design Engineer Location: London, UK Package: Up to £65,000 + Car Allowance + Benefits Job Description: A leading engineering consultancy, is seeking a Principal Mechanical Design Engineer to join their established team in London. The successful candidate will play a key role in providing technical expertise and innovative solutions across a range of projects, with a focus on existing buildings. This role offers an exciting opportunity to lead and deliver high-profile projects while collaborating closely with clients and multidisciplinary teams. Key Responsibilities: * Technical Due Diligence: Conduct comprehensive condition surveys, pre-acquisition surveys, dilapidation surveys, license to alter assessments, and prepare associated reports to evaluate the mechanical systems condition and performance in existing buildings. * Plant Replacement Projects: Lead smaller project works, up to £3 million, including boiler/chiller replacement projects. This involves conducting surveys, feasibility studies, preparing design works, managing construction sites, overseeing project execution, and administering contracts to ensure successful delivery. * Design Excellence: Specialize in challenging existing buildings across all RIBA stages, focusing on creative and innovative design solutions. Conceptualize and implement design strategies to enhance and transform mechanical systems, ensuring they meet current needs and standards. Collaborate closely with clients and project teams to deliver high-quality, sustainable designs. * Maintenance and Operational Support: Conduct quarterly inspections of buildings, oversee preventative planned maintenance programs, maintain asset registers, troubleshoot mechanical system issues, and optimize energy usage to improve operational efficiency. Ensure compliance with environmental standards and conduct Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs) as required. * Sustainability and Energy Efficiency: Lead projects aimed at reducing carbon energy use and improving building energy ratings for existing buildings. Implement sustainable practices, upgrade building systems for enhanced energy efficiency, and ensure compliance with environmental regulations. Drive initiatives to lower energy consumption, enhance indoor environmental quality, and contribute to reducing the carbon footprint of existing structures. Qualifications and Experience: * Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field. Chartered Engineer status preferred. * Extensive experience in mechanical design engineering, with a focus on existing buildings and plant replacement projects. * Proficiency in conducting technical due diligence, preparing feasibility reports, and managing construction projects. * Strong design capabilities, with demonstrated experience in delivering innovative and sustainable solutions. * In-depth knowledge of building services, mechanical systems, and energy efficiency standards. * Excellent project management skills, with the ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and deliver projects on time and within budget. * Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain client relationships. * A proactive approach to problem-solving and a commitment to continuous professional development.
