This is a unique chance to lead the Board of Trustees, providing strategic direction, governance oversight, and leadership to ensure the continued success and growth of Avalon Group.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Leadership: Provide visionary leadership and strategic direction to the Board of Trustees, guiding our organization towards achieving our mission and long-term goals.
  • Governance Oversight: Chair Board meetings, ensuring robust decision-making processes, adherence to legal and regulatory requirements, and best practices in governance.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain positive relationships with service users, staff, donors, partners, and regulatory authorities, serving as a key ambassador for Avalon Group.
  • Financial Stewardship: Work closely with the CEO and Finance Committee to ensure the financial sustainability, accountability, and transparency of the organization.
  • Advocacy and Representation: Advocate for the rights and needs of individuals with disabilities, representing Avalon Group at external events, forums, and with stakeholders.
  • Trustee Recruitment and Development: Support the recruitment, induction, and ongoing development of Trustees, fostering a diverse and skilled Board that reflects our values and objectives.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Demonstrated experience in senior leadership or governance roles, preferably within the charitable sector or related field.
  • Strong understanding of charity governance, legal and regulatory requirements, and best practices.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to analyse complex issues and drive organizational change.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and a passion for improving the lives of individuals with disabilities.

Time Commitment: This is a voluntary position requiring a commitment of approximately 8-10 hours per month, including attendance at quarterly Board meetings, committee meetings, and occasional events or training sessions.

The Chair of Trustees will serve an initial term of three years, with the possibility of extension.
