Gas Originator in UK

At INEOS Energy we produce and trade oil, gas, and carbon credits. INEOS Energy Trading (IET) is responsible for trading the gas production from INEOS’ upstream assets in the North Sea and also provides access to market for its internal businesses in countries across Europe with a significant overall energy demand.

As Gas Originator you will work within the Gas Origination team to develop a deep understanding of the European gas market and cultivate relationships with key partners (both internal and external), with a view to originating and structuring gas related transactions in order to drive value, create profit and reduce costs. This role is integral to further strengthening the capabilities of IET with a view to increasing origination and trading activity in the European gas markets.

RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Seek, identify and execute origination opportunities to grow the European gas desk portfolio and generate P&L.
• Work closely with the Gas Trading team, and use analysis and data, to identify key trading targets and negotiate and execute EFETs, ISDAs, DMAs and CMAs to maximise counterparty coverage.
• Identify and execute opportunities to enter gas swaps/short haul arrangements to reduce transmission costs and/or create revenue.
• Support the Contracts Lead to onboard new customers and ensure that KYC and due diligence checks are completed, and NDAs signed prior to entering into commercial discussions.
• Develop an understanding of European gas regulations and identify opportunities/risks resulting from regulatory developments.
• Identify opportunities to bid/tender for gas supplies/sales. Lead the bid preparation and tender process, seeking input from Trading, Operations and Legal.
• Understand warehousing of origination risk, including credit and value at risk, working closely with the Risk team to manage these risks effectively. Work with the Risk team to assess counterparties credit limits and ensure that appropriate credit support is obtained.
• Monitor and report on the performance of gas optimisation and origination activities.
• Develop strategic relationships with core internal and external business partners to originate opportunities which will create additional value.
• Work with the IET team to identify opportunities in the gas market to drive the progress of IET’s carbon roadmap and thereby contribute to the INEOS Group sustainability agenda.
• Produce reports and presentations to educate and support internal businesses.
• Represent IET at industry energy events, summits, conferences etc across Europe.
• Assist with ad-hoc requests to help support other teams.

SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE

• Undergraduate/Postgraduate degree
• Thorough understanding of European Gas markets and regulatory environment
• Commercially astute with ability to identify, structure, articulate and execute transactions
• Excellent negotiation skills with proven track record of deal execution and consistent delivery of revenue and targets
• Numerate with good analytical skills
• Fluent in English, another European language desirable
