Insurance & Claims Manager

Iconic London Institution

London

circa £50K plus benefits

RJ-3134

Put simply – iconic. Like Beefeaters and Tower Bridge, red busses are synonymous with London, and an icon that is instantly recognisable all over the world. This is a superb opportunity for an experienced insurance professional to take charge of an insurance programme of a British institution, and have a real impact on the lives of millions of commuters a year.

Our client operates over 1,000 busses, and from 6 depots across the capital. As you would expect, it has a 7-figure premium spend and a complex insurance programme spanning a whole host of covers – giving rise to a wide variety of claims! These could range from high volume and relatively mundane claims such as clipped wing mirrors, lost property or minor injuries, right up to multi-vehicle pile-ups, depot fires and, unfortunately, fatalities.

We anticipate this role to appeal to insurance professionals who currently work inhouse, or to those from insurer, broker or adjuster environments who wish to take a slight change in direction in their career.

As you will be reporting to senior managers at Group level, this is a highly-visible role where your successes will be obvious to all. You will be responsible for managing relationships with a variety of stakeholders, both internal and external. This could be collating and presenting information to insurers and brokers prior to renewal, negotiating contracts with new suppliers, or analysing claims trends and associated MI and presenting your recommendations to senior colleagues.

Whilst a lot of the more ‘vanilla’ claims are dealt with by a Third Party Administrator, this firm has a 6-figure deductible, so claims handling is a key part of this role. As well as identifying claims trends and looking at ways to mitigate risks, you will investigate claims that are contentious, potentially fraudulent or exaggerated. This will include taking witness statements and reviewing CCTV footage. As well as playing a key role in settling claims made against the company, you will also seek to recover monies from 3rd party insurers in the event of non-fault accidents.

It is essential that you have a good understanding of common commercial covers, particularly Motor Fleet. Ideally, this will include extensive experience of claims handling, and knowledge of relevant case law. You will also be well-organised, with excellent task-management skills. Excellent communication skills are essential, together with the confidence and gravitas to secure buy-in from people from all walks of life, including at Board level.

Our client operates a hybrid-working arrangement, allowing you to work a couple of days a week from home.

In return, you will receive a basic salary anticipated to be £50K, although there is potential flexibility for outstanding candidates. For the ambitious, as this role is so visible, you will benefit from an elevated profile within the Group, and be invited to help on a variety of exciting new projects. One other benefit worthy of signalling out is a TFL travel card for yourself (+1, after six months) that affords you unlimited, free travel on TFL services across the Capital.
