What’s involved?

IAAPS is a world-leading centre of excellence supporting the transport industry in the transition to net zero with the development and validation of clean, efficient and affordable zero carbon propulsion technologies. Our recently commissioned, purpose-built facility located at the Bristol & Bath Science Park encompasses 11,000 sqm of state-of-the-art research and test cells with multi-fuel capability, including green hydrogen together with extensive HV Power, as well as vast collaboration space and offices. The exceptional quality of the work we do at IAAPS and the service we provide to all our stakeholders is part of who we are – there’s no room for ‘good enough’. This is a unique opportunity to join a team to work collaboratively, in a matrix structure, to ensure we can provide the most accurate virtual and physical conclusions. We deliver highly technical, novel research and development projects with demanding time and cost constraints in an ever-changing environment.

As a Senior Project Manager, you will work collaboratively with colleagues across teams in IAAPS to ensure a variety of projects are managed to agreed quality, budget and timescales.

You will also help develop the methodology and toolchains to enable projects to be managed effectively.

The role involves:

> Working closely with colleagues and clients across project teams to generate and maintain project plans.

> Managing project finances, including project expenditure and budget forecasts.

> Monitoring overall profitability of projects and associated reporting.

> Monitoring delivery and overall performance of projects against project plans and timelines, ensuring that projects are delivered on time.

> Generating project reports, including status updates, technical and commercial timing.

> In collaboration with colleagues define resource requirements for projects, both facility and personnel.

> Managing project risks, mitigation and associated reporting.

> Co-ordinating and facilitating project team meetings and other project communication channels. Liaise regularly with clients and internal teams on project status and delivery.

> Develop and maintain the procedures and toolset to report project status in terms of financial and technical progress, working between the technical delivery team and the finance department, reporting to the senior leadership team.

> Managing and motivating colleagues to embrace project management practices, including risk management.

What do I need?

> Previous experience of managing highly technical small to medium sized projects (£10k – £1m), taking responsibility for managing time, budget and quality aspects within a Project Team environment.

> Strong communication and relationship-building skills; ability to adapt personal style to different audiences, influence, and challenge effectively.

> Ability to proactively manage multiple projects with competing demands and deadlines, role model and support others to adapt to change and achieve results.

> Proven working knowledge of project management methodologies (for example Agile, Prince 2, Lean Six Sigma).

> Previous project management experience within a research or high-technology environment, ideally with a focus in the automotive, aerospace or marine sectors.

> Ability to lead and motivate people across teams to achieve results, on time and on budget.

> Strong communication and relationship-building skills; comfortable with supplier management, acting as a customer interface and presenting to senior management.

> Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to adapt personal style to different audiences, influence and challenge effectively.

> Ability to analyse and assess information and situations, and present creative solutions to challenges.

> Ability to manage competing demands and deadlines; able to role model and support others to adapt to change.

> Ideally membership or qualifications in project management e.g. APM, Agile, PRINCE2 or equivalent.

> Compliance to ISO27001 Information Security Management System Policies and Procedures.
