Senior Aeromechanical Engineer

Salary: £55,000 DOE

Location: Surrey

Permanent - Onsite

A fantastic opportunity to join a company at the forefront of research, design and development of next generation UAS/UAV systems for the industrial, security & defence sectors.

The successful candidate will be responsible, thorough and accountable with a sharp eye for detail.

Duties

• Define hardware requirements and perform system level design

• Collaborate closely with product managers, software, and other mechanical engineers to evaluate and optimise designs for customer needs, reliability, and ease of deployment into the field

• Lead the development cycle of various aeromechanical systems and subsystems to meet performance requirements. This includes architecture definition, conceptual and preliminary design, prototype, analysis and finally production readiness

• Take ownership of hardware development from requirements elicitation to production sign-off

• Follow rigorous testing protocols, creating testing documentation and test designs

• Apply DFM principle at the early conception stage

Competencies

• Proficiency in CAD, preferably SolidWorks

• Knowledge of additive and subtractive manufacturing processes

• Materials Engineering understanding for common aerospace materials: carbon fibre, aluminium, 3D printed materials

• Understanding of aerodynamics

• Understanding of electric motor propulsion

• Understanding of control theory and its application in the context of UAVs

• Understanding of electromagnetics as part of collaborative work with electrical engineers

• Understanding of product design and release cycles

• Preferred: experience with designing for, and testing, flying systems
