Position :

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer at Tautus, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the design integrity, safety, and compliance of mine hoist and winding systems.

This position encompasses a diverse array of responsibilities, including conducting design reviews, performing design verification tests, undertaking compliance assessments, and overseeing Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) programs.

Additionally, you will be involved in providing expert witness support for mechanical engineering matters and facilitating site surveys for infrastructure projects.

The successful candidate will be invited to join our 6-month onboarding programme, where you will learn the full Tautus process: from how enquiries are dealt with to client visits, report writing and following up.

During this time, you will have the support of a buddy and also a mentor to guide you through the process.

Profile

We are looking for a Mechanical Engineer to join our community, based in the UK.

We are particularly looking for an engineer with a strong inspection background.

The successful candidate will be part of the UK’s only independent Mine winder testing organisation, conducting mine winder testing with its current clients and development of mine winder testing and inspection of mine transport systems with future clients (UK and Worldwide).

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct design reviews and assess conformity to design standards.
• Perform design verification and commissioning tests for locomotive-hauled transport systems.
• Undertake compliance assessments of mechanical equipment, machinery, and process equipment.
• Provide comprehensive mine winder testing services, including statutory compliance testing, commissioning, ad-hoc testing, and special investigations.
• Implement and interpret new regulations, ensuring adherence to industry standards.
• Oversee Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) programs to ensure equipment integrity.
• Support expert witness work related to mechanical engineering matters, including personal injury and commercial claims.
• Conduct site surveys at various railway stations to facilitate the design of supporting structures for new computer information systems.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (preferred)
• Familiarity with lifts, conveyances, and mining operations (preferred)
• Expertise in Mechanical Design validation
• Proficient in conducting Safety evaluations to ensure equipment complies with industry standards
• Experienced in developing and executing Testing procedures
• Strong aptitude for logical problem-solving
• Ability to identify and implement new business opportunities with flexibility
• Skilled in analysing complex safety-critical systems
• Capable of performing safety assessments for mechanical machinery and equipment
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Focused on working in high-risk environments with proven risk assessment capabilities
