A solution architect is in-charge of the overall technical vision and solution for a particular business problem. They design, describe and manage the solution design and govern the delivery of the solution against the intended vision.

Job Description

Due to the nature of the client engagements, every employee needs to be able to achieve Security Clearance.

This means that you need to have the right to take up employment within the UK, do not have or require any visa to work, and have been resident in the UK for at least 5 years without any gap(s) totalling more than 6 months.

You should be able to easily commute to their Manchester office. For some roles/projects, travel to the clients offices will be required and the frequency is often determined by the client.

Key responsibilities of the role are summarised below:

  • Define creative solutions for business problems, holistically addressing functional and non-functional requirements.
  • Define the architectural roadmaps for systems and business services
  • Effectively describe solutions using industry standard modelling notations
  • Define and document standards and guidelines to direct the solution delivery
  • Ensure that the finished product conforms to the architectural principles and standards
  • Provide architectural and technical leadership
  • Contribute to the practice development through thought leadership and development of innovative services and offerings
  • Participate in business development activities, bids and development of innovative offerings
  • Participate in thought leadership about Architecture and Digital Transformation.

You will be expected to manage small teams within the CTO function delivering to clients.

Performance management of others, and support their ongoing development and/or mentorship may be required as part of the role.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will have:

  • Strong working knowledge of open source, open standards and cloud technologies
  • Good understanding of architectural concepts, methodologies and approaches
  • Excellent working knowledge of design patterns and modelling notations such as Archimate, UML and BPMN
  • Good knowledge of integration techniques, architecture patterns and non-functional drivers
  • Strong experience of leading development teams from a design and technical basis
  • Quality Assurance skills to assess the quality and completeness of deliverables
  • Knowledge and demonstrable experience of both traditional and agile delivery methods
  • Ability to understand and challenge designs

  • Effectively manage both internal and external stakeholders to ensure synergy
  • Collaborate meaningfully with all parties to ensure outcomes are reached effectively
  • Whilst having experience in a consultancy is beneficial, demonstrable experience in working with clients/external partners in other settings will always be considered.
