JOB DESCRIPTION

Lead the manufacturing function within budget and output targets, to meet customer requirements, quality and safety standards. Full accountability for ensuring safety, customer quality, cost and delivery requirements are met. 

Responsible for developing an enthusiastic, motivated and flexible team by building working relationships and managing the team to follow best practice, follow standard procedures and focus on continuous improvement. 

THE ROLE

  • Contribute to the creation and implementation of best practice manufacturing vision, strategy, policies, processes and procedures to aid and improve operational performance.
  • Effectively and efficiently manage the production of the required daily, weekly, monthly targets in line with customer specifications, meeting quality and delivery expectations, minimising costs where possible and ensure the required best working practices are maintained at all times.
  • Responsible for plant production, meeting customer requirements and maintaining the orderly and productive operation of planned activities.
  • Ensure the target productivity level is achieved on a daily basis.
  • Update the production plan on a daily basis.
  • Communicate and liaise with other departmental managers regarding throughput of stock to ensure production targets are met.
  • Attend various meetings and action/communicate instructions.
  • Produce written reports and make presentations.
  • Undertake continuous training and development.
  • Perform root cause analysis and resolve problems.
  • Conduct risk assessments of processes and tasks in the department.
  • Ensure that the function operates in accordance with any health, safety and environmental policies and procedures to ensure the safety and wellbeing of staff and visitors.
  • Manage, coach and develop a high performing manufacturing team that meets agreed objectives and which delivers best practice results, added value and continuous improvements.
  • Contribute to setting department objectives/KPIs and review and assess ongoing performance of direct reports.
  • Report on achievement of targets and identify any actions required.
  • Manage and lead the team, ensuring adequate staffing levels, managing holiday allowances, recruitment, training, development, appraisal, attendance, disciplinary issues and daily supervision to maximise efficient productivity.
  • Provide technical expertise to the team e.g. world class manufacturing/lean techniques.
  • Monitor the completion of tasks and ensure good performance and record on appropriate systems.
  • Consistently promote high standards through personal example and roll out through the team so that each member of the team understands the standards and behaviours expected of them.
  • Input and hold responsibility for manufacturing budgets e.g. overtime, people costs.
  • Contribute to setting and manage KPIs for area of responsibility.
  • Work as part of the Management team to share ideas and improve operation, recommending, supporting and implementing continuous improvement activities and process and procedure improvements to optimise results and improve quality of delivery, in line with quality standards requirements delivery in line with Company and Customer requirements.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure optimal performance.
  • Ensure an effective interface with other departmental staff is maintained.
  • Liaise and communicate with other departments, customers, suppliers and other service providers.
  • Stay current and up to date on any changes that may affect the supply and demand of needed products and materials and advise others of any impact.
  • Contribute to new business initiatives and projects and review and communicate the impact on manufacturing activities.
  • Support, comply and ensure complicity with Health & Safety regulations, the Company Handbook, Quality and Environmental standards, and all other Company policies and procedures. 
  • Proactively contribute to creating a good team atmosphere.
  • Drive performance of Supervisors, team leaders and other team members, giving direction and feedback to aid good performance; tackling poor performance with individual employees by liaising with HR and creating plans to improve performance where necessary.
  • Ensure safe working practices are maintained and ‘Standard Operations’ adhered to.
  • Ensure that non-conformance is challenged and counter-measures are agreed and implemented.
  • Through the utilisation of lean manufacturing techniques, strive to exceed the Company targets in productivity, efficiency, quality and reducing non value added activities on a continuous basis.
  • Support the implementation of engineering changes, production trials, product changes and pilot build.
  • Report and act upon plant or machinery breakdowns to maintenance.
  • Promote Total Productive Maintenance procedures to further improve the availability of the line.
  • Verify and ensure accurate reporting of hours or work for the purposed of payroll, attendance records.
  • Support the resolution of customer concerns. Identify and eliminate root cause using robust countermeasures. Sustain the corrective actions to eliminate repeat issues
  • Recruitment, induction and evaluation of new and existing employees
  • Supervise and control resource effectively to support customer delivery requirements and also Lean Manufacturing principles
  • Monitor and maintain company Absence Management Procedures to ensure maximum attendance levels, including carrying out Return to Work interviews; counselling of employees. In conjunction with HR carry out attendance review meetings and manage time keeping and attendance appropriately.
  • Deal with disciplinary, capability and grievance issues on an informal and formal basis in line with Company procedures.
  • Responsible for coaching and training of operators for products and processes within the local team. Ensuring flexibility of labour by multi-skilling team. Keeping accurate training records.
  • Conduct performance development review process in a timely fashion.
  • Conduct team meetings and briefings.
  • Monitor the completion of tasks and ensure good performance and record on appropriate systems.
  • Conduct incident, accident and non-conformity investigations and associated reporting and action closure.
  • Consistently promote corporate standards through personal example and roll out through the team so that each member of the team understands the standards and behaviours expected of them.
  • TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

  • Travel in the West Midlands between Hadley Group Sites.
