Researcher Position in Social Digital Twin research – Fujitsu Research of Europe, Slough, UK

We are looking for a researcher in our Converging technologies Research Group, working on the Social Digital Twin (SDT) project. The SDT develops solutions to social issues. We create integrated technologies that combine large scale data with knowledge from a variety of fields, including data science, the humanities and social sciences. We are developing systems that use real-world, real-time data to create digital twins that mirror the behavior of complex systems – cities, transport, power – and enable their management. Our systems are developed for real-world requirements.

We are seeking a creative researcher with an interest in software development who can integrate our leading-edge technologies and data sources to create challenging examples of the SDT in action.

Your role will involve:

  • Evaluating requirements for SDT applications
  • Identifying suitable technologies and data (from Fujitsu Laboratories or elsewhere) to fulfil these requirements
  • Designing and implementation of proofs of concept or prototype systems to demonstrate the SDT
  • Acquiring domain knowledge of SDT application areas to communicate the benefits to our stakeholders
  • Generating IP and publishing work in top academic conferences and journals

Your experience

To be suitable for this opportunity, you will be pro-active in your approach, adaptable and able to demonstrate that you have:

  • A post-graduate qualification in a relevant field e.g. PhD or similar
  • Experience in the simulation of complex systems
  • Understanding of the principles of software engineering
  • Proficiency in object-oriented programming language
  • Experience in cloud development environment e.g. AWS or Azure
  • A track record of writing academic publications
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

The following skills are optional but desirable:

  • Smart cities, transport systems, power networks
  • Data driven applications (IoT, streaming data etc.)
  • Large-scale simulation of physical systems
  • Experience in development using Infrastructure as Code
