Who are we?

Oxa is enabling the transition to self-driving vehicles through an initial focus on the most commercially advanced sector; the autonomous shuttling of goods and people. We are home to some of the world's leading experts on autonomous vehicles, creating solutions such as Oxa Driver, equipping vehicles with full self-driving functionality; Oxa MetaDriver, using Generative AI to accelerate and assure the safety of deployments; and Oxa Hub, a set of cloud-based offerings for autonomous fleet management. Our technology is being deployed across the UK and the U.S, and we're partnering with a fast-growing ecosystem of operators, vehicle OEMs and equipment makers serving autonomous transportation globally as it advances.

Based in Oxford, and with offices in Canada and the U.S, Oxa was founded in 2014 and is  growing rapidly (350+ ‘Oxbots' to date). Our purpose is to change the way the Earth moves, through an uncompromising focus on safety, efficiency and explainability of our AI approaches. The company has attracted $225 million from leading investors so far, with $140 million raised in the last Series C funding round in January 2023.

Your Team:

Autonomous vehicles depend on sensor data. The quality and dependability. Sensor data is central to performance and safety. The Sensor & Compute team is therefore at the very heart of Oxa's software and platform development. This team makes it possible for vehicles to know where they are and what is around them. Furthermore, by analysing the quality of data at run-time, the products of Sensor & Compute team allows vehicles to gauge and predict their own performance and safety margins.

The diversity of sensor types along with a multitude of calibration, data quality, and inference challenges makes the Sensor & Compute team a fast-paced and exciting team.

We are a dynamic and engaged group of people from diverse cultural and professional backgrounds, all working together towards our goal of Universal Autonomy. We would like you to join us.

The Sensor & Compute team is responsible for developing high-performance sensor drivers, with a strong emphasis on working closely with development teams to understand their needs. We care about sensor quality, health, and optimality with respect to our algorithms. We ensure that interfaces are well-defined and documented. We ensure that all teams are fully supported. We are the eyes and ears of the system.

Your Role:

  • The development and launch of sensor suite to support the latest developments in sensor hardware applicable to autonomous vehicles in multiple domains including camera, radar, lidar, IMU, GPS and multispectral devices.
  • Maintaining and updating sensor drivers, with a focus on applications on low-power embedded devices
  • Developing sensor introspection capabilities to ensure that sensor data is high-fidelity and the autonomy system it serves can leverage the full capability of a sensor. This includes developing algorithms and techniques to ensure time synchronisation and timestamp estimation.
  • Developing software diagnostic features to monitor sensor health (performance, degradation, fault detection). Developing system plugins to allow the autonomous system to make informed safety decisions on the basis of sensor health.
  • Analysing and improving sensor data quality to get accurate information from the real world.
  • Working with stakeholders across the company to understand requirements and provide tools to support vehicle commissioning, calibration, synchronisation
Requirements

What you need to succeed:

  • Understanding of different sensor modalities and their characteristics and experience working with them.
  • Foundation experience of C++14/17 programming skills
  • An understanding of how to develop and debug performant C++ software

  • Ability to communicate clearly on technical matters and work well with multiple stakeholders across several teams.

Extra kudos if you have:

  • Experience in software development for embedded devices
  • Experience of producing high-quality C++ code and actively contributing to peer coding reviews.
