Part-time CV Template

If you are searching for a job role that is flexible or part-time, creating a CV that is tailored to the vacancy could be the key to success. This does not always mean starting your CV from scratch or spending hours rewriting your job history to make it more meaningful.

To help you update or write your resume in preparation for applying for your ideal position, we provide a free part-time CV template and valuable tips for each section.

Write a personal statement

The most crucial part of your CV to tailor to each job vacancy is your personal statement. These first few sentences are an opportunity to sell yourself and say why you are an ideal candidate.

An effective personal statement should explain who you are, what you can offer, and your career goals. If you are not sure what to mention, take a look at the employer’s job description and note the skills you have that they are looking for. You can prove your case by including examples of using your skills while simultaneously creating a unique CV.

What to include within a personal statement on a CV

Hard and soft skills

If you haven’t got a great deal of work experience or your roles are not relevant to the part-time job, you may want to prioritise your skills over your career history.

You can include hard skills, which are specific to an industry, and soft skills, such as problem solving, adaptability, and communication. Add an example of your skill usage to back up your claims and highlight those relevant to the job advert.

Career history

If you have recent and relevant work experience, you can bring your hard and soft skills into this section rather than covering them independently. Add your most recent work experience first, along with any achievements.

Where possible, use examples to add credibility to your statements. You could, for instance, say that by listening to customers and asking insightful questions, you excelled at sales and exceeded your sales target by X%.

If you have only a little career history, it is okay to leave this section out and focus on your skills and education.

How much job history should I include on my CV?

Include your education from GCSEs onwards

Your education is a valuable addition from GCSEs onwards. Place your most recent achievements first and work back to your GCSEs. If you have A-levels, a diploma, or a degree, you can cover your GCSEs by mentioning their number and grade range rather than detailing them separately.

If you have a diploma or degree, you have the opportunity to expand this section by discussing relevant modules and projects. From there, you can pull out the skills and abilities the recruiter/employer wants.

Hobbies and interests

Including your hobbies and interests is optional, but if you can see how they will have the employer thinking you are the ideal candidate, you should definitely include them. You could show that you are passionate about something, show off your personality, or highlight a relevant skill you did not find a way to mention in the previous sections of your part-time CV.

References, available on request

Unless the job advert asks for references, the rule is to state they are available on request. There is no need to include contact details, and these are typically only requested when a job offer is made.

Credible references can come from previous employers, career coaches, or teachers.
